ALCAR (Acetyl-L-Carnitine)  is used by the body for a variety of mental disorders including Alzheimer’s disease, age-related memory loss, depression, thinking problems related to alcoholism, and thinking problems related to Lyme disease. It can also used for Down's syndrome, poor circulation in the brain, cataracts, nerve pain due to diabetes, nerve pain due to drugs used in the treatment of AIDS, and facial paralysis.

Carnitine has the ability to cross the blood-brain barrier and get to the blood circulation of the brain, where it acts as a powerful antioxidant, helping to form the brain chemical acetylcholine, which keeps mitochondria working efficiently by clearing them of toxic fatty-acid metabolites and helps regenerate neurons damaged by free radicals.
